Brinkley

You must meet Brinkley! If you are not looking for your typical velcro Aussie, and prefer a dog who is a little more independent, but who still has all the wonderful Aussie characteristics, Brinks may be the dog for you. He is approximately 5 years old, a neutered black-tri male Aussie sporting a cool short summer hair cut (this photos is with his "real" coat)! He has a full tail. Brinks gets along with all dogs he's met, does great at the dog park, and enjoys meeting people, is good with kids, loves to play fetch and catch frisbees! (Check out his video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbOx3fhR_v8

-- he actually gets all four feet off the ground!) Brinkley is currently fostered with cats; he is interested in them, but calls away easily as he's concerned about being a good boy. We think he should initially be supervised when meeting cats so he can be reminded that they need to be left alone, and he will be fine. He's a happy boy despite his somewhat confused past.

Brinkley was first owned by a teenage boy who didn't take care of him at all. He ended up caged in a backyard shed and that's when he was rescued. Unlike most Aussies, Brinkley is really calm. He is just content to lay about quietly. He is also quite overweight at 75 lbs; he should probably be closer to 55-60 lbs. Because he loves so to run and play fetch and catch balls and frisbees (and chase BIG sticks!), we think it's likely he'll be a somewhat more active and energetic dog once he trims down. He's currently on a diet and doing very well. Brinks does have one odd little characteristic -- he startles easily and is wary of sudden noises; he's also scared of the camera (so it's been a challenge to get good pics). (The kinda of nice thing about this is that during thunderstorms, he wants to hang out with you instead of hiding away somewhere.)

This is the only 'bad' habit we've discovered, and it's quite easy to work with, his frights are small, and he gets over them quickly and plows happily ahead. Brinkley is housebroken and doesn't try to get on furniture. He loves to go for walks, knows the commands sit, lay down, come here, no, stay, and put it down (to put down a stuffed toy before he goes outside). He loves stuffed animals and toys -- just carries them around with him and will lay with his paws or head resting on one. He loves to ride in the car, enjoys other dogs (we think he'll be more playful as he loses weight), and loves to meet people and to be petted. Brinkley is current on all shots, is heartworm negative and on preventative, and is on Frontline. He is being fostered in Iowa City. For more information or with questions, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue.

Rocky

Please meet Rocky! Rocky is a sweetheart, a large 5 year old red-tri male with a happy and bouncy personality. He sits on command, comes when called and is housebroken. He is not used to being in a crate (and doesn't need to be, is completely dependable in the house), but has been crated in the past and could easily be re-trained. He is a big snuggle bug and loves to be petted (Check it out here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW2bBvZKuwI).

Rocky loves people, kids and most other dogs. He has lived with cats and has been fine with them. He enjoys playing with some toys, though he doesn't really retrieve.

Rocky knows the command "out" to get out from under your feet. He doesn't jump on the furniture at all, and doesn't jump up too much on people either, although he will. Rocky is listed as a special needs dog because he is missing an eye. His breeder neglected Rock and his littermates when they were young; he apparently got an infection of some sort in his eye, and by the time he got into rescue, there was no way to save it, so it was removed. You would certainly never guess he is at all handicapped by the loss -- in fact, he's so agile, he has even caught a squirrel! He is a little overweight at 60 lbs. (could probably lose 5 to be ideal), but nonetheless has a great vertical leap! (So funny to see.) His foster mom says "he jumps like a deer and is really quick!" He really does just jump straight up, though, not over -- has not been inclined to jump over fences. Rocky is very energetic outside, but nice and calm inside. As with most Aussies, he'll stick with you and wants to be where you are. Rocky is neutered and current on vaccinations. Here are a couple more short video clips of Rocky:

1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPE1A3WudmQ, and

2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVSUc0VU3tQ.

Rocky is being fostered in Cedar Rapids. For more information or with questions, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue.

Dink

Dink is a 3 year old red merle male. He is being surrendered by his family because he has some stranger anxiety from his early life. Here is what his family says about Dink: Dink is housebroken. In his last obedience class the instructor we had said he has 'stranger anxiety'.

For his first two years he was tied up outside on a chain before we got him from the humane society. So although he is three, he has had barely a year of learning to be comfortable out in public. His reaction is to whine and whimper if he is around other dogs or large crowds of people (we tried taking him to a parade with our other Aussie once). Generally as long as he is comfortable in his surroundings (i.e., our house or yard, relatives' or friends' houses where we are often) he is the perfect dog.

Honestly if we weren't trying to use him in 4-H (unfamiliar surroundings, lots of 'stranger dogs') we would not be willing to let him go. Our family is quite attached to him. We have never been in a situation where we feel it is best for the dog to be with a different family. Dink always prefers to be where his people are; he is a typical Velcro Aussie. During the day he moves from room to room to follow the activity. At night he wants to stay in the family room as long as there are people awake. He sleeps on the bed with our son (so is good with kids), but has slept in the room with my wife and I and will stay off the bed if told to. Activity wise, he is completely Frisbee and ball crazy. Tennis balls, soccer balls, anything at all that he can chase.

Frisbees are one of his favorites; he likes being able to grab it out of the air. I think he is extremely fast, but I don't have much experience with competitive events to compare it to. We have not had him groomed at all in the year we have had him. He coat is fairly fine and seems to grow to the perfect length and just stop.

Dink has been neutered and is current on all vaccinations.

Contact the owners directly with inquiries about Dink; he currently lives in Wapello: Ed Mears, cell 815-441-5017, email mirrors93@iowatelecom.net

Quincy

This is Quincy. Quincy is a gorgeous 4 year old dark blue merle male. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on Heartgard and Frontline. He is crate trained, house trained, is mastering basic obedience commands, and has good off-leash recall.

Overall, he is a very easy-going dog and is tolerant of everything. He endured an hour long grooming session, with amazing patience, although we think he probably just loved being touched, even if that meant nail trimming and lots of brushing. He likes to be petted and to have his belly rubbed. Okay he lives for belly rubs, as evidence in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSvzqGHtxD0). Quincy came into rescue as a stray, a very well-fed stray! He has been minding his waistline and continues to lose weight. Quincy loves people, he likes to play with other dogs and thinks toys are quite fun. Quincy is very easy to live with, he would make a great companion for someone who wants an Aussie but doesn't want to deal with a young dog's exuberance! Quincy is a typical Velcro Aussie in that he likes to be wherever the humans are, preferably close enough that they could pet him if they had a hand free.

We really enjoy this charming guy's patient and calm demeanor and hope someone else will appreciate it too. For more information or with questions, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protégé Rescue.

Gretter

Gretter is a 2 year old red-tri male. This loving boy is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. Gretter is crate trained, house trained, is mastering basic obedience commands, has good off-leash recall and definitely loves his toys. Overall, he is a very easy-going dog who is a touch spunky. Gretter's very tolerant of things such as daily household activities, community dogs and kids walking by the privacy fence, loud storms and is great with other dogs and cats. Gretter is in wonderful shape and would be great with a very dog-savvy family. His only downfall is that he gets so excited that he jumps - but his foster family is working on that with him. Just because of his larger size, Gretter may knock down small children when excited. A typical velcro Aussie in that he likes to be wherever the humans are, preferably close enough that they could pet him if they had a hand free, he is also quite content to lay at your feet. For more information or with questions, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue.

Jake

Meet Jake. He is about a year old, give or take, and weighs around 50 lbs. He is a very handsome red merle with a blue eye and an amber eye. When he gets over these 'bad hair days' and his coat grows out he is going to be very striking. He is a loving and enthusiastic dog. He is crate trained and is learning some basic obedience. He is UTD on his shots, neutered and microchipped.  Adoption Application and donation is required.  Please contact aussie@aol.com for more information or fill out an application at www.rosas.rescuegroups.org

Cowboy

This is Cowboy. He was from Mercer County. He is about 3 years old and weighs 50lbs. He is all love - his big brown eyes just say, "won't you love me?". He so wants to please. He can be a little shy but with loving encouragement and a confident voice he moves right ahead. He likes men and women, gets on well with other dogs. He does well on a leash, is crate trained and is learning basic obedience. He is a happy dog, but could be so much happier in a loving forever home. He's a great dog. He is UTD on his shots, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped.  Adoption Application and donation is required.  Please contact aussie@aol.com for more information or fill out an application at www.rosas.rescuegroups.org

Blossom is a great smaller Aussie. This beautiful girl has a wonderful personality. Blossom loves people and kids alike. She is more hesitant with dogs, but warms up pretty quickly. She knows her basic manners of sit & come and can walk on a leash fairly well. She is up to date on all vaccinations and tested negative for heartworms. She will be spayed soon & microchipped. Blossom is eager to find her forever home. Please consider her today!!!  Adoption Application and donation is required.  Please contact aussie@aol.com for more information or fill out an application at www.rosas.rescuegroups.org

Bear

This is Bear - perhaps he was named Bear because he looked like a bear as a pup - perhaps because he's a sweet, affectionate teddy bear. He came with a NSD registration application, but it's not clear if his registration was ever completed. Bear is 6 1/2 yrs old, born 8/30/01. He has the smallest little stub of a tail. His chest has just a smattering of white hairs; the tip of his tongue is black!?! Bear was an owner turn in, at the Mercer County Humane Society; they were told he was used for breeding. He is a polite boy walking very nicely on a leash. He is learning basic obedience. He is learning about crates going in with a little encouragement. Bear is UTD on shots, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. He would do best in a one dog home.  Adoption Application and donation is required.  Please contact aussie@aol.com for more information or fill out an application at www.rosas.rescuegroups.org

Duke

Meet Duke!!!! Duke is a Black Tri male that is 1 yr oldand 33 lbs. He is hesitant with adult strangers but warms up if you play with him and loves to ride in the car. He is active and knows, sit, down, come, shake, but needs a fenced yard to run and play. He is generally good on lead. , He is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, house broken, crate trained and microchipped. He is located near Cincinnati Ohio. Adoption Application and donation is required.  Please contact aussie@aol.com for more information or fill out an application at www.rosas.rescuegroups.org

Lexx

Lexx is a blue merle male neutered- about 3-4 yrs old. (55lbs) He is a great family pet. If you like the smartness and the responsiveness of an aussie but want a medium energy dog-- he is for you. He knows: sit, come, down, and shake and is decent on lead. (housebroken) he is in love with everyone he meets. He is microchipped and up to date on all shots. You will notice that his coat looks a little chopped up. His previous family never brushed him, and the shelter cut his coat/matts. We had him professionally groomed to help get rid of mats and undercoat, but he will need to learn that brushing is fun, by introducing it a little at a time. His fur is very soft, and will grow in nicely. He loved his bath, and likes to ride in the car. He really likes smaller dogs and cats too. He is very cuddly. Lexx wil go to an experienced Aussie home only and any children in the home must be over the age of 15. He is available thru rosa's rescue. Adoption app and donation required. contact Aussie@aol.com for more information or please fill out an application on our website at www.rosas.rescuegroups.org

Sadie

Hello from Sadie! Sadie is a very pretty little red merle female, small at about 30 lbs (and should probably lose 2-3), 3-1/2 years old, spayed, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccinations. She's quick, energetic, very interested in learning, agile, and curious about everything. Sadie is okay with other dogs, but she probably won't be a playmate; she's fine with the live-and-let-live philosophy of her two foster sisters, and when she met a couple of similarly energetic young male dogs, she mostly wanted to intimidate them and make sure they knew she was In Charge. Once they all figured out they weren't going to play together, they just went about their business. But, Sadie is extremely attentive to humans. She has great eye-contact and is just dying to learn new stuff. She'd make a wonderful agility dog and I can easily imagine her doing a fabulous flyball box turn and ripping back to you.

She's not at all barky (though did growl at those two males, but only to make sure they knew who she was, not aggressively), doesn't much like having to go into the crate but is completely fine once there. She's housebroken, rides great in the car, and has an excellent recall. Sadie is very interested in watching my caged birds, but so far hasn't done more than watch and I try to discourage that. She is fine uncrated around the house, doesn't chew on things or get into trouble. She likes to put her front paws on tables and counters -- though seems mostly curious and isn't trying to counter-surf; nonetheless, I'm discouraging that, too. She loves attention and petting and puts her head under your hand to nudge if you forget she's there and waiting for pats. Sadie is no couch potato and will need to go to a home where she'll be kept busy, but she is totally willing to do your bidding and will make such a fun companion! Please consider Sadie to share in your activities! For more information, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue.

Here is some training video of Sadie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_LSmAgawCs

She is bonded with her 'daughter' and is housebroken and a sweet girl. She has met children and all types of humans. Although older, she would like to live her last years out in a nice home rather than the street where she and her sister were dumped and found wandering.

Senior dog adoption donation applies.  This dog is available thru Rosa's Rescue. Adoption application and donation are required. Contact Charlene at Aussie@aol.com for more information or visit our website at http://www.rosas.rescuegroups.org to fill out an adoption application.

Chase

Here is the buddy your dog has been waiting for. Our two dogs eat, sleep, and play together, Chase is used to having a sidekick for company. He is very friendly with all dogs sometimes to eager to go up and say hi. He is a handy watch dog with his loud bark but once the person comes inside he wiggles his but and goes up to take a sniff. Chase can entertain with some tricks including sit, down, shake, high-five and rollover. He loves to play with everyone but forgets he is a big boy so he would be better suited to play with older children.

Chase is a six-year-old large male, neutered aussie mix. We are very sad to be giving him up but we are selling our home and moving into an apartment, we will no longer have the time or space
he deserves. He is a great dog for those who love aussies, he is intelligent and fairly independent. Chase is a good blend of playfulness and the maturity that comes with a few years of age. He is housebroken and will sleep in a crate with another dog but he can also be left unconfined in the house.

A year ago we discovered Chase had a thyroid condition so he is on a lifetime medication, fortunately it requires very little extra effort. We pay $12 a month for the medication, which he eats twice daily with his food without any struggle. Chase is the addition your loving home could use.

Please contact Beth at:  rescueak9@yahoo.com

Max

Max is a very cute and affectionate 11 month old pup. He is an adorable handsome little man. He has very unique blue merle coloring, along with a full tail. Max is smaller at just over 20 lbs at almost a year, but is lanky so he doesn't look as small as he weighs.

He was kind of shy coming from the shelter, but he has really opened up since he has found some love and friendship. He loves playing with other dogs and some choose to put him in his place when his enthusiasm gets too much, but he immediately picks up on the boundaries, and goes about his happy way. He is also fine with both of our cats, plays with one and respects the other one. He has a great personality and still lots of puppy.

Max came essentially untrained. In his short stay he now knows his (new) name; he will come, sit, lay down, and is still working on stay. He also knows not to bring chew toys on the couch and not to beg, but sometimes needs to be reminded. He walks very gently on lead, and also knows what "get busy" means when its time to go to the bathroom. He had a few house training incidents when we first got him... maybe it was his nerves, but he has it figured out with no accidents in over three weeks.

He quite a personality in our home, he never fails to make us laugh at least once a night.

He is neutered, vaccinated, and crate trained.

Please respond to Robert Marchionne

Consider the advantages of the older dog. Many feel they should be looking for a young dog but the more mature Aussie has many advantages. He will be well past the destructive, headstrong phase, and a mellow companion. Aussies typically live beyond 12 years so a 5 year-old is barely middle aged. Talk to your representative about the mature Aussies available.

Hilda

Hilda is approximately 2 years old. She is a dark blue merle with a full white collar. She is energetic so she needs a home with adults or children over 10 years old. She is also housebroken and crate trained. Hilda loves people.  She sees cats as the ultimate chase toys. Due to this we prefer her to be in a home without cats. Hilda is making improvements on walking on a leash and she is getting along better with the other dogs. A fenced in yard is required for this beautiful girl. Please contact lplessing@aol.com

Noah

Noah is shy of strangers, but loves to be loved on, play fetch and of course eat!  He loves his crate and doesn't mind being in it.  He knows sit, down, stay, wait, drop it, leave it and come.  He is 5 1/2 years old, current on his shots, neutered and is on Heartguard and Frontline-plus. He is a moderately active aussie who likes most other dogs, and would do well in any home.  If you want a buddy who is good in the car and keep you company, NOAH is for you.

Please contact Alicia at  aheidorn@woh.rr.com or Charlene at Aussie@aol.com for more information, and an adoption application.
