Happy Endings - Adopted Dogs | Reba Please meet Reba. Reba is a gorgeous dark red-tri Aussie girl, born in March 2007. She is unique-looking because she has no white on her face at all, and has dark brown eyes to match. Reba knows basic commands such as sit and down, has a pretty good recall (though mostly just comes because she'd rather be with you than anywhere else), and is good on leash. She is completely housebroken and is crate-trained, and rides well in a car. Reba is getting along fine with her two foster sisters and loves to play fetch with a tennis ball! She brings the ball right back and drops it for you to throw again. She is a medium-sized girl at about 45 lbs. Her owner turn-in papers indicate she gets along with cats and kids (she lived with 6- and 12-year old boys); she does like to put her paws up on you to greet, so younger kids would need to be dog savvy until she learns not to do this. She's pretty active, but then she is only a year old. She hasn't been at all destructive with toys and isn't chewing on anything inappropriate; she has very good house manners -- although she is a little curious about what's on counters, she's learning to keep her paws down. Reba is spayed and current on all vet work, on Frontline and Heartgard. Here is a short video of Reba: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IZcCfBaAiY. If you are looking for a fun girl to share in your summer activities, Reba might just be the dog for you! For more information or with questions, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue. | | Josie Josie is a 1-1/2 year old active red-tri Aussie female, medium-sized at about 42 lbs. This sweet little girl is just a ball of energy and is always looking for a toy to have you throw. Josie was picked up as a stray and was sitting at the local dog pound. She does seem a little fearful of men but, is improving daily with her foster dad. Josie is able to get along with the 3 other dogs in her foster home (all males) and is quite playful with them. Although a little too enthusiastic towards the cats on occasion, I think she will be able to live in harmony with cats in her future home. She is easily turned away from them when getting too excited. Josie is an active girl who will need a home willing to spend time giving her something to do. Things like obedience classes, agility, disc dog, flyball and maybe even herding or being a running buddy would be wonderful activities for such an energetic dog. She is really such a little comedian. If you don't throw the toy right away she will hop on her front legs, moving a litlle bit backwards every time. I can't help but laugh and find it completely adorable. And let me tell you, BOY can this girl get air when she wants to -- a good jumper for sure! Josie has been updated on her vaccinations, tested heartworm negative, has been started on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and is scheduled for her spay. If you are interested in learning more about this loving girl, please contact her foster mom, Shellie, today at i_lvanimals@yahoo.com. Josie is being fostered in southeast Michigan. | | Dillon Dillon is a 6 month old male Border Collie, with a sweet baby face, and a luscious coat! Dillon comes from good border collie lines, and is registered with the American Border Collie Association. His pedigree is available. Dillon is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. Dillon has been a sheltered boy up until he entered foster care. Since entering foster care Dillon has been learning all about walking on a leash, riding in a van, crate training, and general house manners. He makes progress daily towards being a great dog! Dillon is housetrained, and has not made mistakes in the house. We are working hard on learning not to chase (herd) the cats. I think that with time and patience, this behavior could be under control with a dog savvy cat. Dillon is very affectionate and eager to please. Lucky Dillon gets to go to work with me every day at doggy daycare. You might be able to catch a glimpse of Dillon romping with the other dogs on our doggy camper cams at http://www.campbowwow.com/us/ia/hiawatha/CamperCams/tabid/1507/Default.aspx. I do believe that Dillon would do best in a home that is willing to provide him with a chance to work doing agility, flyball, disc dog, herding, or send him to doggy daycare or be willing to spend a lot of time playing with him in the back yard. Dillon is young and has shown an eargerness to learn how to be a great companion. Please email for more information, and check back for updates. Dillon is being fostered in Cedar Rapids. For more information, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue. | | Nina We would like to introduce you to Nina. Nina is 10 years old, a pretty blue merle with a full tail. She is a very sweet older lady who was turned in by her owner because she is no longer able to keep her. The owner has been divorced and is having to move from a farm into an apartment where she'll be allowed to keep only one dog. She chose to keep her 14-year-old, knowing that one would probably be the most difficult to place, but she has to find new homes for her others. She first tried to return Nina to the shelter from which she adopted her years ago, but they said they would euthanize her as they euthanize any dog over six (!!). Well, of course that was not an option, so she found Aussie rescue. She left Nina with our rescue group after many tears and hugs, she obviously always keeps her dogs for their entire lives and this transition was heartbreaking for her. Poor Nina was also very quiet, sad, and confused for her first few days, but now she is blending into her foster home. Nina's a little bit overweight after a winter of inactivity. She has some minor mobility problems though we are seeing a lot less creakiness as she loses weight and is getting more exercise now that spring is here. She is already much better going up and down steps then when she first arrived, and is now even thinking about attempting the jump up into the back of the car. Nina gets along wonderfully with all dogs she's met, she is quiet and peaceful and meets politely, though we're sure she'd thrive as an only dog and dedicated companion. Nina has lived with kids, cats, horses and other dogs in the past. She's very happy to meet all humans and loves to be petted. Nina is housebroken, spayed, about 48 lbs., and current on all shots. She enjoys car rides, lays right down and is quiet. Nina comes immediately when called. She is content to lay quietly most of the day, though we hope she will find a home where she'll be taken for regular walks to keep her fit and healthy. She had her first trip to the dog park since she's been in her foster home and seemed to be very happy to be able to explore and sniff and greet people. Please consider adding this lovely trouble-free lady to your home! She has been a joy to foster and we hope that people can look past her graying muzzle to see how special she is. She certainly deserves a loving family to share her life. Nina is being fostered in Cedar Rapids. For more information, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue. | | Radar Hi! My name is Radar and I am an adorable 4.5 month old Aussie pup. My birthday is July 19th, 2007. I am what they call a black bi (black and white) Aussie and everyone that meets me says I am just about the cutest little guy they have ever met. I'm trying not to let it go to my head. I am a very sweet and social puppy, I love all other dogs, cats, kids and all people I meet. Life is just one grand adventure for me! I am housebroken and crate trained too. I'm told I am very smart! I am very well behaved in the house, I don't destroy things, I just play with my toys and have a lot of fun. I LOVE to play with my foster Aussie brother, we wrestle and play and chase and have the best time. I sure hope my forever family has an energetic canine brother or sister for me to play with. That's what I want for Christmas!" A note from Radar's foster mom: Radar is truly a remarkable puppy. You see, Radar is totally blind. He was born without Retinas, and unfortunately his blindness is complete and irreversible. But please do not pity Radar, he knows nothing else and is just about the happiest, most well adjusted puppy I have ever had in my home. He learns his surroundings so fast and you totally forget that he is blind. He figured out my doggy door within a day and goes in and out to run around the yard to play with my Aussies. Radar loves to go new places and to meet new people and dogs. Life really is one big adventure for Radar. He is a real gem of a puppy. Radar has been neutered and has been brought up to date on his vaccines. He is all ready to find his forever home. The ideal home for Radar will be one with a fenced in yard (traditional, no underground fencing) and a home with another playful dog that Radar can bond with and have a friend to follow and play with. Radar also loves children and would make a great family companion. He is such a smart puppy who loves to learn new things that I want a family who will be interested in taking him to classes where he can continue to learn and experience new things in life. Radar does not need a home that will only pity him and keep him sheltered at home. He needs a family that can look beyond his blindness and see the normal, funny, smart, playful Aussie puppy that he is, one who wants to continue to experience all life has to offer him! If you are interested in learning more about Radar, please contact his foster mom, Sheri, at aussiemom@centurytel.net. And please note, I will not ship Radar anywhere sight unseen. So please do not even ask. Any prospective adopter will need to come to Wisconsin to meet Radar. He is currently in the Madison area. | | Ringo This is Ringo, who was rescued from a bleak existence: he was never given a name, was shot with a BB gun for following his people, was chained up, and when not on a chain, was "hopefully" going to get hit by a car. If he was not hit by a car, he was going to be "taken care of." Despite this beginning, he is a VERY loving boy. He wants nothing more than to be petted and loved on. I removed so many mats from his hair and ticks off his body, that he has some almost-bald spots at the moment. He has been coming in the house and sleeping loose at night, with not one accident (although it did take some time for him to want to come in the house at all). He is excellent with children and really just loves all the attention he can get. He has not really had an interest in playing with toys, but I think that will come with more security. He is learning how to play well with other dogs, and has a keen interest in all things with wheels. He would be a nice agility prospect, as he is very agile and quick. He is quite food motivated. He is current on all of his shots and is neutered. I can/will get a heartworm test on him prior to adoption. His adoption cost will be $100.00: basically what I have paid for shots/neuter - and heartworm test. He us just under 2 years old. Please help me find him a family of his own. Ringo is being fostered in Missouri. For more information about Ringo, please contact Jackie at divadogs10@yahoo.com. | | Roscoe This is Roscoe. He is a neutered, adult male. Roscoe was an inside dog with the German Shepherd in the photos and his owner, who died. Roscoe waited at animal control for two weeks but no one offered him a new home. He is good with people and children, but needs to be introduced properly to other animals, as he is leery of animals he doesn't know. Roscoe loves to play with the tennis ball, or any stick you can find. He's around 5 years old. Roscoe is up to date on all his shots, and is microchipped. He is looking for his forever home. For more information, please contact Mitch or Sarah at mmagill33@gmail.com, or by phone at 319-365-4846 or 319-431-5333; or contact Anne at ausiersq@dstream.net | | Conan This is Conan, one of The Late Night Boys, a litter of 6 seven week old boys that came into rescue on the 27th . These boys have been keeping their foster homes entertained (sometimes a little too entertained late into the night!). They were born at the beginning of December to an Aussie mama and a Cocker Spaniel papa. We could say they are a designer breed, but in truth their owner "didn't know the Cocker Spaniel could do that!" The boys have all been neutered, wormed, and are up to date on their shots. All puppies have docked tails that wag constantly! Conan is the largest one of the litter - and the most Aussie. Quite a ponderer, this red-bi also grunts when he is happy. He is currently living in a home with 2 adult Aussies, 4 cats and one of his litter mates. He enjoys playing with the adult dogs - and is quite curious about but gentle with the cats. He is playful and a quick learner, knowing paths through the house, where to go outside to the backyard and coming when called. He also is really good about letting us know when he needs to go outside. Conan likes lots of toys, seems to be a natural tugger (found a scarf and was running with it, likes to rescue cat toys), and also likes balls or anything to chew on. He is working on learning inside, outside, sit, and come. He is currently being crate trained, he spends each night in his crate and is in a pen inside when the foster family is at work. He does keep a watchful eye on his person (keeps following us to see what's going on - but does keep his distance if needed) and loves to be close – but is very happy to go outside with just the other dogs. He has good potential for a working/performance dog. Here's a video of all the pups on a romp in the snow: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6RniL1Ss-IA. If you are looking for an outgoing, friendly, well-socialized puppy, any of these boys would be an excellent addition to your family! For more information, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue. | | Ferguson Please meet Ferguson, one of The Late Night Boys, a litter of 6 seven week old boys that came into rescue on the 27th . Ferguson is black-bi with slightly curly hair. Fergie likes lots of toys, seems to be a natural tugger, and also likes balls or anything to chew on. He is working on learning inside, outside, sit, and come. He is currently being crate trained, he spends each night in his crate and is in a pen inside when the foster family is at work. He does keep a watchful eye on his person (keeps following us to see what's going on!) and loves to be held – but is equally happy to go outside with just the other dogs. Leno is a sweetie pie, but he is also the ring leader of the three boys here. He is a dark sable color, with the cutest face. He loves to play with toys, tug, chase his brothers, or lead his brothers in a merry chase! Leno is learning to potty outside and to come when called. He loves to play in the snow and dig out buried treasures from underneath it. He also loves to attack my slippers, they are fuzzy! Leno is very responsive to the big dogs here, he backs off when they tell him too and gets all submissive with the big dogs. He has mastered going up the stairs like a champ, going down the stairs is another matter, but he's getting braver with each try! Here's a video of all the pups on a romp in the snow: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6RniL1Ss-IA. If you are looking for an outgoing, friendly, well-socialized puppy, any of these boys would be an excellent addition to your family! Letterman is one laid back cool dude, with the most soulful eyes. He is a deep liver tri-color with a smattering of freckles on his nose! He loves to play with toys, tug, and he likes to collect toys in his bed. That's probably a wise move with two other pesky brothers! Letterman is learning to potty outside and to come when called. Letterman likes to watch things, see if it looks fun and then he dives in with gusto! Of the three pups here, Letterman is the one who seeks us out to snuggle. He loves to be held and have his belly rubbed. Letterman is good with our adult dogs, although he really prefers the humans! Here's a video of all the pups on a romp in the snow: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6RniL1Ss-IA. O'Brien is the intrepid explorer, he is always the first to try something new. He is a light sable color, with hazel eyes. He loves to play with toys, tug, and play with things that he thinks should be toys. O'Brien is learning to potty outside and to come when called. He loves to climb the highest piles of snow and is especially happy to play with tennis balls. He is a smarter than his brothers, he already figured out where the puppyfood is stored and when he's hungry he paws at the bin. O'Brien is good with our adult dogs, although he thinks they should want to play with him. O'Brien thinks laps are the greatest places to take naps. Here's a video of all the pups on a romp in the snow: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6RniL1Ss-IA. All puppies have docked tails that wag constantly! Colbert is black with some white. He is an adorable little pup. He is currently living in a home with 4 adult dogs, of various sizes, and gets along well with all of them. He enjoys playing with the adult dogs and he is also responsive to their cues about when not to. He is playful and seems to be a quick learner. Also one of the smarter in the litter, he has already learned to go both up and down stairs. He has also tried flying and testing out his theory of gravity (his theory was wrong). He likes toys, seems to be a natural tugger, and also likes balls. He is working on learning sit, down, and come. He is currently being crate trained, he spends each night in his crate and is there when his foster person is at work. He is also good at spending time in the house in an x-pen and is quiet. As long as he is taken outside often he prefers to potty outside. He does keep a watchful eye on his person – but is equally happy to go outside with just the other dogs – not too needy or clingy but knows who feeds him. He has good potential for a working/performance dog. Here's a video of all the pups on a romp in the snow: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6RniL1Ss-IA. Milo is a 1-1/2 year old male black-tri Aussie. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. Milo's former family was unable to keep him when they moved into an apartment. Milo already knows sit, down, shake, and give kisses. He is a very happy boy, gets along with all other animals, including his three canine foster sister, two feline foster siblings, and our pet rat. Milo goes to work with me most days at Camp Bow Wow. You might be able to catch a glimpse of him playing with the other dogs on our webcams at http://www.campbowwow.com/us/ia/hiawatha/CamperCams/tabid/1507/Default.aspx. He plays very well with others, and really loves going to camp with me. Milo is great at home, as he is perfectly content playing with my other dogs, lying at our feet while we relax at night, or entertaining himself bouncing around an empty kong toy. He also likes to play tug, fetch, and chase the "red bug" (laser light). Milo is very affectionate, and enjoys a good belly rub. He is anxious around some men at first, but with reassurance and treats, has accepted them after initial meetings. My boyfriend wouldn't mind keeping Milo ... but we know that there is a fantastic home out there for this great dog, and adopting him out rather than keeping him means that we can continue to provide safe haven for other foster dogs in need. Don't pass up this awesome Aussie! For more information, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue. | | Jasper This is Jasper! Jasper is a 1-1/2 to 2 year old black-tri male Aussie with minimal tan. He weighs approximately 45 pounds. Jasper is neutered and up to date with his shots. He is crate trained, housebroken and knows the commands sit and down. He is very gentle when taking treats out of the hand. Jasper loves to play with toys and chew on bones. He also loves to run around and play with his foster brother both inside and outside of the house. He is eager to please and loves to be near his human. It wasn’t easy taking photos of Jasper as he would not stand still long enough to take photo of him standing up. This fun loving guy is fostered near Iowa City, and would love to find a family to entertain! If you are looking for a well-behaved boy who loves to play, this is the dog for you. For more information, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue. | | Mickey Please meet Mickey. Mickey is one handsome boy! He is about a year old, a gorgeous black-tri male with a happy and fun personality. Mick's got an athletic build; he loves playing with dogs (he'd enjoy having a brother or sister playmate!), and is at least as pleased to get to meet any new human. Mick was originally found as a stray with one hind leg torn up badly with serious bite wounds and his eyes full of blood. The shelter knew he was worth helping, though, and after surgery he is back to 100%; you'd never know now that he'd been injured. Mick was initially adopted out to an elderly gentleman, who returned him after a month because he was "too active." Mick is no couch potato, he is definitely a busy boy and wants to be involved in whatever you're doing. But he's a quick learner and seems to enjoy figuring out what you expect of him. And he's ready for a snuggle in the evenings when life settles down; he's very loving and sweet. Mick is about 45 lbs., neutered, crate-trained, housebroken, up-to-date on all vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on preventative. He enjoys car rides and jumps right in. He's quite good on leash for never having any training, though will pull when he sees a dog or human he wants to meet. He quickly learned sit, down, and wait (when the back door is opened). Despite still having a lot of puppy in him, so far chewing hasn't been a problem at all. He is ready to join you and your family today in whatever active pursuits you have. For more information, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue. Here is some video of Mickey in action: Mickey On YouTube |

She is a great dog, (previous family had 4 kids) who is crate trained, potty trained and good with kids and other dogs. She is being fostered with a family who is putting her thru her doggy and human evaluations, but all looks good so far. She is good in the car, knows sit and come and goes outside to play and run. She is good with other dogs and we will up date her profile after all her vetting is done. (Her coat is not in very good shape, and her pants have been cut, but all that will grow back) She is offered by ROSA's rescue, so an adoption donation and application are required. He is very active and is always afraid he is going to miss out on something, so will follow you everywhere -- that is until about 9:00 p.m., then he is out like a light. He absolutely loves to swim and run and play and would love to have a fenced in yard. He is very loving and protective, is extremely smart, and does great on a leash. We inherited him from our son, but are not able to keep him. He's such a good dog and we love him very much, which is why we are trying to find him a home where he can run and play and just be a dog. For more information, contact Juli at jcassidy@chimesnet.com, or by phone at 319-298-4624. | | Pogo Please meet Pogo. Pogo is a 5-year-old black-tri Aussie with perky prick ears and a heart of gold. This poor guy has what we call "the curse of the black dog"! Somehow we just can't get across in pictures what an amazing dog he is! Pogo came to us because his first owner, a single mom in nursing school didn't have enough time for him. He spent 6 months in foster care patiently waiting for a family, and then a little over 8 months later that family returned him because the couple was getting a divorce! Life is just not fair for some dogs; sheez, if he was a blue or red merle we would be fighting off adopters with a stick! Pogo loves people, he loves other dogs, he especially loves kids, he does okay with cats although he might bug some cats with his attempts to play with them. Pogo has one of the most stellar temperaments we've seen. He can sashay into a crowd of dogs and immediately make friends, he lets kids hang all over him, he happily greets all people. Pogo loves to go for walks, play fetch, or just sit at your feet. He's not too active, he's not destructive, he rides well in the car, he is housebroken, obedience trained, he's even good off leash! So what is his curse? Everyone who meets him in person tells us what a great dog he is but in just a picture he doesn't inspire most folks to fall in love with him. Why? Well he's just not as flashy as many of his fellow Aussies; he's got those crazy prick ears, only a little thin stripe of white on his face, and he's approaching middle age. So he sits in foster care, where we are continually amazed that a fabulous dog doesn't have a home of his own. We hope that maybe, just maybe, you will think about how much you deserve a magnificent dog who will love you unconditionally and who's not going to ever, ever judge you by your appearance! Since we want folks to see how great this dog is, we've included this video of Pogo and his foster mom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7V_ENebF8o We hope this will help everyone to see this special dog in a whole new way! | Ginger My name is Ginger and I was abandoned in a drop box at a shelter with my best friend Pepper. Some nice people saved me and now I have been spayed and have all my shots and am on heart-worm prevention. I am about 3.5 years old, initially shy, but very sweet. All I want is to find someone to love me. I just loved to be loved on. I like peace and quiet and am very laid back. I am red and white and have been told I am cute as a button. I am crate-trained, ride fine in a car and all I need now is my own home - with you! Approved applicants please contact dgatsos@bfca.com. | |

| Bodhi Bodhi is a red merle neutered male about 10 mos. to 1 year old. a mellow guy most of the time, he can move fast when he wants to! Bodhi is a very quick learner. He's learned how to climb stairs and be a gentleman inside the house. He is great around cats and other dogs (even our high-strung girl). Bodhi wants nothing more than to lie his head in your lap and gaze up at you with his striking amber-green eyes. His red merle coat will be beautiful when it grows back in. (lost a lot from anesthesia) He is working on sit and knows come, He is learning to walk in a neighborhood and is having fun out of the shelter. He would be a great addition to any home. He is available thru ROSA's rescue, adoption donation required. Contact sjmyers6@fuse.net for an application. Bodhi is located near Cincinnati Ohio | | Chevy Please meet Chevy! Chevy is a 3-year-old blue merle male with plenty of white and handsome copper trim. He's very striking looking. He has one blue eye and one marbled eye. Chevy's a nice-sized boy at about 50 lbs. and has a thick show coat that will require a good brushing now and then. He's got quite a lot of energy and will need to go to a home where he'll get plenty of exercise; he's not a couch potato. Chevy has a very happy personality. He's not as clingy as many Aussies, but is thrilled with pats and rubs when they're offered. He gets along well with other dogs and is good with kids (he's interacted well with a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old). He's not generally jumpy so isn't as likely to knock small kids over as some dogs might be. He's fine crated and loves to ride in the car. Chevy has been to the dog park on a busy day and did great interacting with everyone, though he needs some work on his recall. So far, he's naturally stayed off of furniture unless invited up. Though sometimes if you're giving him pets in the evening, he does like to "sneak" up into your lap. Chevy came to us from a shelter and was a little underweight (sometimes hard to know a dog is losing weight under these heavy coats, especially in a stressful shelter environment!). However, he's a huge fan of food, so putting a little weight on him hasn't been difficult (keeping weight OFF may be, eventually!). He is a counter scavenger and is sometimes impatient waiting for his dinner and treats to be put down for him, and may jump up for them. We're working on this, and one reprimand is all he needs to settle down. He's also now expected to sit and "WAIT" until his dinner bowl is put on the floor before he can dig in. Not a rule he likes, but he's learning that if he wants dinner, he has to do it. Chevy is housebroken, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative, and is neutered. He is being fostered in Cedar Rapids. For more information, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue. |

 | Sammy Here is Sammy a sable neutered male Aussie about 18 mos. old up to date on all shots and hw-. House Broken and crate trained. Sammy loves to ride in the car, is okay with a cat (who is dog savvy) and loves to be petty and get his belly rubbed. Sammy is all boy, and is really a 'guys' type dog. He has the wonderful Aussie 'eye' and has a great attention span that needs to be challenged. He'd make a great obedience and or agility prospect, and we are going to have him herding instinct tested. This boy needs lots of room to run and a very patient owner, with no toddlers. He is great with kids, but he is too active and doesn't know he is a larger Aussie at 65lbs. This dog is worth the investment of a dedicated owner. He is everything you want and don't want rolled into one, so you're going to have to be up to the challenge. He would never hurt anyone or anything, but he so unaware of his size-- he can plow you down... but -- he plays ball, loves the attention, and is extremely willing to please. So, if you want a super dog in whom your investment of time will really pay off, this is the dog. I imagine him being a pillow for little kids when he is settled, but that will take a while. So, please email aussie@aol.com for information on Sammy, and or sjmyers6@fuse.net for an application for this wonderful opportunity. |
